Thanks for the suggestion. I was looking for Xterra initially but unfortunately they were discontinued. Seems that Jeeps keep their value pretty well so even a bit older with low mileage is nearly...

Looking for jeep owners!

Given my current lifestyle (100% hiking, climbing and mountaineering than a few years ago), my little 2WD vehicle just ain't cutting it anymore. So, I'm in the market for a Jeep, but never having...

Yak Peak, June 2nd

Yak was a peak that we wanted to hit after doing Needle Peak last year. A pretty neat looking granite peak.

The trailhead was a little tough to find, marked with a ribbon and an...

Ice Box Canyon (Red Rock Canyon) - Las Vegas, Jul 29 2017

Took a quick trip to Red Rock Canyon, a 30 minute drive just outside of Vegas while I was there for a convention. Very much a worthwhile experience and far from what we're exposed to in the PNW....

Needle Peak Aug 12-13 2017

First off, I loved this hike. If I end up repeating any hikes, this would be #1 (https://forums.clubtread.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) on the list so far. It really has a little bit of...

I was eyeing Cook, but thought it was a little late in the day once we got camp set up, especially with the state of my legs. I definitely felt the draw though. Weart looked fun too. I'd definitely...

Nice! I've been eyeing that hike myself as an overnighter at the lake. How did you find the scramble to the summit? It looks like that last picture may be looking out towards Markhor Peak. Is that...

Harness-free scrambling protection

As I get into scrambling and alpine hiking more, one of the questions that I've thought of is: What happens if weather causes trickier sections to suddenly become hazardous? One may feel fine free...

Wedgemount Lake (Garabaldi)

First off, this hike just killed me, as you'll see by start/end times. Many breaks taken along the way. Apparently my legs need a little more time to recover than a day in between Evans Peak and this...

Evans Peak, July 13th 2017

I decided to take a run at Evans Peak in Golden Ears as an after work treat to catch the sunset after reading somewhere that it should take about 4 hours. Note to self: Do more homework ;) It took me...

So, I took a look at the North Face Cobra 52 pack. For those interested, AFAICT, there are two distinct differences:

1. There's a spot specifically for crampons. Not the end of the world if I have...

I currently have two packs, an Ospray Talon 11 for day hikes and a North Face Terra 50 for multi-day treks. I'm looking to transition to a little more mountaineering in August (specifically Mt Adams...

Trip reports require moderator approval?

I've tried submitting a trip report twice (Golden Ears in BC), but have gotten a message on both occasions stating that a moderator must approve the post before it's visible. According to a response...

Golden Ears (West Canyon Trail) Jul 1-2 2017

First trip report!

I attempted to summit Golden Ears between July 1st and 2nd. My hope at the time was to catch the fireworks from the summit. Unfortunately, it didn't go quite as planned and I...

That was a question that I'd asked in addition to the trip report that I'd posted. Hm, I guess I'll try again.
