Add my vote to the list! I'll compete with T2C for the most dislikes, that amateur will be PM'ing me for advice inside of a week!

wilderness_seeker 07-11-2011 11:39 PM

I would like to like both Larry's and Monster's posts above.

blackfly 07-11-2011 11:43 PM

If I add a like to WS's post, does that gain me a like for Monster and Larrys posts too?

AcesHigh 07-12-2011 12:26 AM

I think I'd like a like/unlike button of its own entity counter on here, not the facebook snippet. Some may differ.

What's the point? It would not serve a purpose other than being a popularity contest. I can say whatever I want regardless of how nice or not it is and i'll still get the crusaders disliking my posts. How about being able to view who liked or disliked your post...that would make sense and take the anon-e-moose factor out of it.

You can measure how many delicate toes you have stepped on and begin a track your stats page.

For some people the Negative Numbers can be used for dislike.
A recent reply since my last reply, made me think of that.

Although this numbering system will not be accurate to point out the people with behavioural problems, those are obvious.

If you like to like there's always Facebook :)

mountainnerd 07-12-2011 02:31 PM

Rather than trying to be like Facebook why not try integrating with Facebook instead? That is you can login to Clubtread using your Facebook account and when you post something on clubtread it appears on your wall and all your Facebook friends see it. That is if you want to waste time integrating with a potentially dying site. G+ is better and very likely to replace Facebook. Anyone want an invite?

While I would probably use the feature if it was implemented, (on jd22's post above, for example because I think it's funny) I vote against the implementation of a like/dislike button. To me, the value of an internet community (or any community for that matter) is challenging and adding to my ideas, perceptions and knowledge. Liking and disliking comments creates too much of a popularity contest. It encourages editorial-style statements instead of well thought out posts or valuable information. To me, referencing someone's idea, trip report, or contribution is more complementary than hitting 'like' because it demonstrates that you've received their communication, integrated it and fed it back in some form.

On fb, I'll use the 'like' button to indicate that I've read something or think it's funny or generally approve, but I've also seen it used as a signal-to-noise popularity contest which then gets fed into fb's algorithms and turned into internet junk food. (I must thank my friend Trivia for posting a link to the TED talk which taught me about "internet junk food" - http://www.ted.com/talks/eli_pariser...r_bubbles.html )

I will create some phantom users so I can feel even more liked, or mabye liked at all?:)

Anyway, I think it's a bad idea and serves no purpouse other than to create classes of popularity. If you really like what you see then take the time to use your key board and comment.

blackfly 07-12-2011 06:23 PM

Well, I dunno, what about when you see a great tr? Sometimes I'll enjoy reading something but dont comment because I have nothing to add other than "nice trip" or great photos", which can be kind of boring. A like button would at least show the person it's been read and enjoyed.

I like what Kevin said too about seeing who's liking what. :)

OK that is a good point but lets not have a dislike button though.

I'd like like, but dislike dislike.

Positive vibes, not negative.
