For some people the Negative Numbers can be used for dislike.
A recent reply since my last reply, made me think of that.

Although this numbering system will not be accurate to point out the people with behavioural problems, those are obvious.
Might want to add to yours - [u]Irrelevant Button</u> , Aces ![]

As for the suggestion , are we turning CT into a Face-Book Variant ?

Make it so we can do our own posts so I can go back and dislike all my own posts.

I have a suggestion. If you like someone's post, perhaps you could construct a sentence similar to:

"I like what you said."

If you don't like what someone said, perhaps...

"I don't agree with you because..."

or

"I don't like what you said because..."

I realize this causes the most consternation, but it also means trolling and similar (grossly inaccurate/dangerous) comments have some information attached to them.

But that would require actual thought, which is kind of going out of style in this age of textspeak and instant gratification.

The CBC site has a thumbs up or thumbs down option in the comments section. I always do kind of wonder exactly what aspect of what I said wasn't agreed with. 75 "agree" and 57 "disagree" doesn't really tell me anything. Plus they let me agree with my own comment, I think.

I think something like this is cool:

But then again that is for PHP, but just as an example.
Thumbs up and thumbs down is cool!!! As Wilderness Seeker mentioned.

W.S. ... they have also added a sub column to each post ... " REPLY " , which would help you understand the disagrees or even the "agrees" that come with reservations-of-reasoning.
After a while , regular posters can recognize the intelligent from the list of usual-suspects that post garbage or nasty-comments or intractable ideologies , and their moderator enforces the guidelines well.

So really , as johngenx mentioned , if we just politely and reasonably said " I don't agree with you because " or " I agree with you , [u]but</u> "... , the result is the same , if not better , and we are not turning CT into a Voo-Doo Doll to stick pins into , and become some sort of psychological witchhunt or vengeance board .

However, Monster, I'll hack into Jim's server to put a Dislike button in every post you make and and make a bot to click on that button so you'll get the most Dislike votes in every post. All that just for you. See.
