Yeah, the older I get the less I can handle hiking downhill on ball bearing steep gravel roads. I blew a knee cartilage out years ago doing that don't want to do it again. I just so much prefer having my mountain bike even if it's a slug to ride and pack it uphill.
my bike is well built for climbing, it's a hardtail with a 52 tooth cassette and a 32 tooth chain ring .... but even so, a few km of really steep roads, they're just cardiovascular crush-fests
