I'd be more worried about my car being vandalized while I'm gone. Manning Park is safe as I've never heard about bear attack there. I've been hiking for 45 years and never had a bear attack instead I had been bluffed charged by grouse quite a few times. The best information on bears is by Dr Tom Smith, a wildlife biologist. I wouldn't worry too much...just go out and have fun but respect the environment.
