woodenshoes that's how I set the declination with no problems. Setting it back to zero again does line up 0 degrees on the housing dial with 0 degrees declination. I guess I will have to either scrap the compass or find a retailer who knows this brand well enough to diagnose the issue. Thanks for your assistance.
