Default North Shore Cornices

The cornices can still be quite large. This was taken last week on N Strachan, Cypress Bowl ski area. Cracks could be seen in the snow at least 15 ft from what seemed like the edge, and the drone shot confirmed what we suspected. Stay on the side that brought ya up.

Awesome shots! Were you down below when you took these? I'm wondering what it looked like from over top the people. I'd love to see a shot if you have one. I haven't been up there for awhile.

How about the Mt Harvey cornice? How much is left after the five hikers walked on it.

There seems to be a big response to this photo (with the people on top) on another site. The people were not on the overhang, or close to it. Drone/GoPro type of pictures are spectacular but do not show perspective well. I believe this is because the software tricks us into thinking that everything is closer together than it really is by creating sharpness of image throughout the perspective.
I have also been asked to contact a local media company regarding the shots. I would rather that this buzz go away. I don't know the legal aspects of this, but if asked or have the authority, I certainly do not provide permission to use the shots of this thread.
The intent of posting here is to show how large and dangerous the cornices are after this winter. I continue to hold the same intent.

@oldmatt

Great shots. Thank you for sharing. The cornice is massive.

If you did not give permission for the CBC to use the shots the click on the feedback link in the story and tell them so. They don't have your permission. Also tell them they don't need to use the shot to advertise the dangers of cornices. If they don't pull the images contact the CBC Ombudsperson. The Ombudsperson person will address your complaint.

It appears that given "The people were not on the overhang, or close to it." Mr. Danks of NSR and/or NSR have made comments that negatively affect your reputation. If your identity is knowable, even to sum, ask him or NSR for an apology. After all from your words in the original post it is clear you understood the danger. As it is equally clear there is no way to tell how far the group was from the end of rock or cornice. As well, you can ask that they pull their facebook post for the same reasons as the CBC should.

Global news used it. The fools are loitering on a cornice.

They'll use anything for attention, whether the use is appropriate, accurate, or otherwise.

No, they're not loitering on the cornice, as explained already in this thread. The fools are the ones claiming dangerous proximity to the cornice.

Peaks, not geeks.

Yes that picture is on FB/ North Shore Rescue site.. and that local media company was asking if I took that shot.

No I did not; but I took a similar picture from St. Mark's back on April 16

Whoa. I wasn't going to comment until I saw this pic. If that goes, he goes, although it looks like he does have a harness. My terrible eyes can't tell if he's tied in.

Just checked the CBC article, they have the two photos taken by the Drone, and the one I took back in mid-April. (i consented to them using mine.)
