Default Elk Mountain fire

Apparently we left for vacation two days before this blaze started and we heard nothing about it until I went riding up there this past Sunday and noticed all the burnt trunks and orange puddles.
A quick search of the local rag brought up this http://www.theprogress.com/news/390742351.html hardly informative, but I guess since it doesn't involve Farmer Fred and his 80 year old tractor, or a tunnel for toads...it's not gonna get much press.

How did this start...human or natural cause?

Hi Mark, the fire was caused by target shooters. Tried to find an interview for you with some people from the CRV who heard shots going off before the fire started. Some of Slesse Park was on evacuation alert but the fire crews managed to get it out quickly, within a few days if I recall correctly.

In this case the firefighters said it was shooting a full propane tank that caused the explosion and fire.

INDEED, It is amazing there are those of our species who commit such terminal behaviour. Heard they wanted to see how big an explosion would result.

well, honestly, this is nothing new, seen big bottles terminated plenty of times all over the place.
Some were strapped in travel trailers, loaded with firewood and explosives and then set ablaze.

Prolly best to do this during cool rainy season though.

Indeed...while riding in the area, I've found more than one location where butane canisters are setup alongside lit tea-lights and shot full of holes...I guess the visual can be pretty interesting.

My worst find to date was a 20 lb tank left sitting in an active fire-ring...!
