Default Monica Meadows/Starbird Pass

Hello,

I was hoping to travel up to the Purcells and explore Monica Meadows this coming October. Has anyone made the trek over to Starbird Pass? Has anything changed within the past few years, with commercialization of the nearby area?

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to climb Glacier Dome from Starbird Pass? I thought that I might be able to get a glimpse of the Lake of the Hanging Glacier from there. (I've seen the lake from its shore -- it seems like it would be incredible to see it from up Glacier Dome.)

Thank you!

You may have already seen the following post:

I was up at Monica last year and ran into a couple who said that if you keep driving instead of taking the last spur for the proper Monica Meadows trailhead, you can get at Starbird Pass without having to hiking Monica and then traverse on the side of rocky Mount Monica, which I've read can be challenging. I don't know if it would be any less work, maybe more bushwhacking and some elevation gain. I'd check GE to see how close you could get. Looks like you could follow a creek and then hike straight up, apparently this guy did it years ago. I've also thought about doing the same thing; getting to the pass one way or the other, then up to Glacier Dome. This year's agenda is already full though, maybe another year. I'll be interested to know how it goes.

Good luck, have fun!

Thanks! Yes, I'd seen SteveOz's and Sandy's reports. I've thought about trying to reach Starbird Pass through the drainage that you were describing, but I want to hike through Monica Meadows anyway, so I figured that I'd try and go around Mt. Monica. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully it will work out for me to get there this year, and if so, I'll try to remember to post a report. Thank you for your response!
