Default Sproatt Mtn on Dec 19 2015

Went towards Sproatt Mtn today: over 40cm of fresh powder made the trail-breaking a real chore

Very stable conditions, even on steep slopes.

We couldn't make it to the top, due to lack of time and not enough energy to break trail all the way..lol

Very little climbable ice around at the moment in SW BC. Marble Canyon and the Rambles, basically.

Went up Flora Lake trail today. Snow right from parking lot, but only a few inches to start. Easy broken trail for first 2 hours to lookout overlooking Chilliwack Lake, probably don't need snowshoes for this part. Then broke trail over older tracks in deepening snow for another hour. Then another hour of enjoyable, waist deep, bottomless, tractionless, steep, loose snow. Hit our turnaround time around 1400m, back down in 1.5 hrs.

Couple of trees down on the Old BCMC, where the rope crossing is, plenty of snow on the trail.

Default Flatiron on Sunday 27 Dec 2015

Amazing skiing conditions in the bowl below Flatiron with tons of POW!

The ski out was amazing as well with the forest being very well covered giving you plenty of opportunities to test speed tree skiing

Not many people out there.

Garibaldi Lake : Rubble Creek Parking

Quick beta... we drove to within 300m of the parking lot with a great deal of effort and then then with a great deal more effort we turned the truck around with the help of a dozen people! There were 4 vehicles that attempted the drive up and all had some amount of difficulty. Recommend you just park on the plowed bit of road just off the Sea to Sky.

The conditions were amazing... fresh sugary snow on the ground with older snow barely clinging to the trees... only got bombed once thankfully. There is a solid track all the way to the lake but its on the summer route for now... later in the season there will be the slightly shorter winter route that passes between Lesser Garibaldi and Barrier Lakes.

Garibaldi Lake is still a couple months away from freezing over.

As per the original thread… Seymour was literally "beaten to death"; Brockton Point was like Boxing Day at Best Buy. A couple of wide slab releases on Pump Peak's south face pointed us to the more conventional route. The route was an autobahn - dog walkers, trail runners, families with toddlers, the octogenarians who do this almost daily. Pump Peak (nice place to spend New Year's ) was like an sro so we moved on to Tim Jones Peak, which we had to ourselves.

Our group went to Elfin Lake 27-28, we had 4 vehicles, one 2wd with snow tire even didn't get to where the university is (we ferried this car), one 4X4 with snow tires parked at lower parking, two 4 runners with chains made to the parking lot. there was a ski accident on Gargoyles next day(28th of Dec), The helicopter was called in, hope everything goes well with the injured skier!

After spending Christmas day on Seymour (parking to First Pump) we decided we had enough of the gong show. So Sunday Dec 27 we hiked the Old Buck Trail. From the junction with Old Buck Trail Access we had to break trail almost all the way to the Lookout. Great feeling being the only ones up there. On the way back we only met 3 other people.
We parked where the car road intersects Baden Powell. when we returned to our car there was a bumper to bumper line up Seymour road. Crazy.

Headed up Kallahne Creek Trail attempting to hit Lost Lake cabin today, realized I didn't have enough daylight and with the number of cars in the parking lot it was probably over-capacity, so I turned around about 3km in. Trail is quite clear and well broken that far (I was wearing vented Merrell Moabs and had no traction issues), and there is hella snow right out of the parking lot.

Our group went to Mt.Seymour to see sunrise today, had to wait more than half hour as the gate opens @7am, we only used microspike all the way to the first peak and the second peak as the trail was well packed, what a good start for a new year!
