Default Diez Vista

I am running in the Diez Vista in 2 weeks and am looking for some Beta on the trails involved. I know there is some gravel paths, some hydro road, etc., but what is the "trail" part like? Is it rocky, muddy, technical, etc.? Trying to figure out the best shoes to wear.
What about snow this time of year?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I assume you mean Diez Vistas trail above Buntzen Lake in Indian Arm.

There wont' be any snow. Otherwise it is North Shore -- roots, rocks etc but generally wide footbed and no bush. South side is steeper and has 1 or 2 spots that might call for use of hands (no running here). There will be muddy spots. I'd probably go with light day hikers, something like Keen Targhee.

Assuming you mean the Diez Vistas as noted by Zeljkok, I just hiked/ran it yesterday. The trail is in very good condition: no snow, very little mud, and only a small amount of windfall. Quite a few slippery roots on the north half though.

I wore trail runners but if you do, you have to pick your way carefully in spots to mitigate risk of ankle injuries.

Roughly 15km long, it is a good short outing that still gets the heart rate up.

I do indeed refer to the trail above Buntzen Lake. The Diez Vista 50 km. trail race is on April 5th and when I say the best shoes, I mean trail runners. I don't want to wear shoes too heavily lugged if I don't need them for lots of mud.

Not a particularly muddy trail (for coastal BC). The trail sections can have slippery sections at times. Think slippery hard rough surface conditions for gear choice. What will trip you up is slimy rocks and the ever-present slippery root parallel to the trail, not bottomless mud-pits that they will retrieve the body from, months later.

Trail runners will be fine, trail runners with an aggressive tread like Salomon speed cross would be perfect.

Excellent... Thanks for the responses. I think I have a good idea what I am in for now.

Why not run or hike the trail before the race? I thought those things required training and preparation.

I don't live on the Mainland, or I would do just that. And believe me, there has been training going on.
