Default Slesse-Borden FSR to McGuire

I'm hearing mixed reviews about the Borden FSR leading to the McGuire trail (the old 103 hikes book way). We dont mind walking the extra part that would be for 4x4, but want to kow if the bridge is no longer an obstacle to get to the old trail.

I know the bridge was out last year (possibly Borden Creek?) but have seen the following all in 2013:

1- "McGuire has new access road (may be 2wd all the way)"
2- "The bridge is still gone."
3 - reports of people doing McGuire but not providing details as to which way they went

Does anyone know? Is there a way to get to the old trail or to the peak without making it longer than a 6 hour hike (or introducing too much wayfinding or exposure)?

If you take a look at recent reports, there is the FSR that comes off Tamihi FSR which heads up on the northest flank of McGuire and then ascends, then some switchbacks until you get to the 1400 meter level at the NE side. From there you hike a ravine area, up to the ridge, and along it towards the summit. some side-hilling to get to summit approach from south like the old trail used. This should all be doable within a 6 to 8 hour day round trip including lunch

Going up Borden is for chumps nowadays. Unless you have a dirt bike or quad that is. Or you are a caver...

It was posted on a facebook group that the old road up, Bordon Creek FSR has been cleared, quad and dirtbike access for sure. Other wise you can turn off at Tamihi and head up that way, which is 2wd

wild child....pretty good trip report right here. The road was clear almost all the way up a couple weeks ago, so I'd assume you can drive right to the parking area now.
