An email I received today from Mt Seymour:

MT SEYMOUR SHUTDOWN NOTICE - FEB 24

Mt Seymour Resorts will be closed on Sunday, Feb 24. BC Hydro is carrying out emergency repairs on the main transformer that feeds Mt Seymour Resorts. This will result in a power outage affecting the entire resort. We apologize for any inconvenience. We will open as usual on Monday morning, Feb 25, at 9:30am.

Interestingly, when I was snowshoeing on Wednesday night at Seymour, I noticed that the new quad chair was not in operation. We thought it was because of the snow that had hit Vancouver that day, but it appears that the problem is a little more serious than this.

Not sure what impact this closure has, on snowshoers and backcountry skiers.

Just saw that posted on their website as well. They must be pissed to miss out on the revenue!

You're right - wonder if they are going to shut the whole hill down (i.e. block you at the bottom of the hill), or whether backcountry snowshoers/skiers will still have access. (If so, this may be your one and only chance to park right next to the kiosk without buying a downhill pass :P).

Hah, I've seen Seymour get 50 cm of snow and still have a powder outage #whiteconcrete

so it's a one-day free-for-all and anyone can go play on the ski runs?
