Default Mt. Baker - Hannegan trail to Hannegan Peak, flower season Jul.28/19

This hike was in planning for several weeks, timing it so we could enjoy great flowery vistas. We took the Hannegan valley (pass) road off the Mt. Baker Highway. As road notices had indicaed, you can not drive right to the trailhead. Last winter some stormy washout carved a deep wide section of the road away, leaving a sectioin of new riverbed now dry. Add the extra walk because of the washout, the Hike to Hannegan Peak return is near 18 to 20 km. Without GPS, estimate 960 net meters elevation gain. (TH at 900 meters , summit at 1855 meters). Total time for the day of 7-1/2 hours included 1 hour for two lunch breaks; pleasant stop at the pass, and again at the summit. Flowers were plentiful, and views were spectacular under blue skies and a few clouds. The valley was a little warm, the summit air was pleasantly cool.
Thanks to my enthusiastic hiking partners; Ziff, Wilf, and Jana for sharing this delightful experience with me.

MAP ... this alltrails design shows the dashed line as the trail from the trailhead to Hannegan Peak; there are also branches to Ruth Mountain and Copper Ridge. Click image for larger version

Here is the Shelter: I think this structure is blessed with the rays of goodness. As it missed being wiped out by the river's rage during the spring thaw and/or storms last winter.
