Default Chain and Baglie Lake Loop Oct.18/15

Two close friends and I chose the Chain Lakes and Baglie Loop Trails as an interesting and worthwhile destination considering the weather forecast and conditions.

Crossed the border incoming, about 10 minutes and stopped to meet at Bromley's IDA store close to 8:15 am, and from there carpooled to Artist Point Parking Lot, Mt. Baker. We geared up and hit the trail near 10 am.

Throughout the day we had only partial fleeting views of the lakes and the hillsides. The clouds and mists did make for some interesting photo ops. Temperatues were very mild, no ice or snow anywhere as freezing level was beyond 3000 meters.

We started the trip from the parking lot (1550 meters) and gained a little elevation to the junction of the Ptarmigan and Chain lakes trails, and then headed down with 100 meters elevation loss to Mzama and Iceberg Lake. From there is a 200 meter elevation gain to Austin pace, and then a drop of 370 meters to the low end of Bagli Lakes. We passed by several small groups of people passed

Day was partially dry, with some mist, drizzle, and llight rain near the end of the day. On our way back up past the large lodge building, we too a lookout of trail of sorts, which we did not want. retraced and found the trail parallel to the road, which we took ..up.. included a short steep section of steps as well. These were fastened down with steep cable and well spaced for safe footing up. Only 7 cars remained when we got back up...

On our return border wait was only 8 minutes to get back t Canada; Price of gas real cheap, $2.059/ US Galloon which converts to about 73 cents Canadian per Litre.
