Too bad I didn't make this trip, it might help if my papers were in order. You're right, McNaught Peak probably wouldn't be on my agenda had I come along, maybe something a little more mellow.

My understanding is that there was no legal way to cross the border from Canada into the US other than at a designated port of entry. Is this correct? I only ask because you mention having your paperwork in order.

nice trip ed. I looked up at that route from silver lake back a year or so ago when I was up there but wasn't feeling it. silver lake is a beaut. I do recall bumping into u at the falls on my way out...bob

DoubleE Alpinist, I suggested that one should have the permits in order. The North Cascades Park Permit is easy to get, with just a phone call to a Ranger station. However as I indicated earlier, I have no experience with the actual procedure for crossing the border at an unmanned site such as this.

Thanks Charlene! Also I just found this pic of the official version of crossing the international border into upper Depot Creek for those who are going to visit this special place. This sign is at the trail starting at the border swath.
