Was pretty pissy about it's long closure also. It's such a great hike I can't believe they are taking so long to fix it. It will be a good hike for early fall.

If this road was in Canada it would NEVER be fixed. Don't complain.

The USFS does a great job of posting updates on their website, as does WTA.org - plus you can always post a question on www.nwhikers.net if you are still unsure

Its true, Canadian deactivated roads are never repaired - look at Lizzie Lake!
Nevertheless, i was pissed it was closed....Just a well the stunning Ptarmigan Ridge was open!

It's been closed all summer. But apparantly it was scheduled to re-open in August or September for fall hiking - which is amazing around Mt. Baker.

From the forest service web site:
FS Road 39 Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (a) and (b), the following act is prohibited on the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest: Going into or being upon the area of Road 39 (Glacier Creek Road T 39N, R 7E, Section 21) from M.P. 1.0 (Thompson Creek Bridge) to M.P. 4.0 and laterally 500 feet to each side of the road. 36 CFR 261.53 (e). This is for the protection of public safety due to road construction and existing unsafe, unstable conditions. This is a temporary order and will remain in effect until August 28, 2009.

Cheers!
