Default Chain Lakes Loop - Mt Baker - 8/5/09

We had planned to head to Hannegan Pass, then possibly onto Hannegan Peak, but the park ranger reccomended CHain Lakes instead as we would be in the alpine the whole time. Its a fairly easy hike, starting at Artist Point, and looping around past several lakes before heading back up to the parking lot. There is about 650 ft of elevation gain at the end (or begining, depending on what direction you go in), but the rest is fairly flat. About 3 hrs for the 7 mile loop.

Bring back Jim.

I love the Baker area and Chain Lakes is one of my favorite hikes. Nice pics, thanks for sharing. I'm wondering if the US Parks Service has any fire concerns in the area as we are hoping to hike Lake Ann or Yellow Aster Butte on Monday. Are the asking for a voluntary backcountry closure like here in BC? Thanks.

when we were there, they were just in the process of closing one trail in the Baker area due to a new fire, the name of which I can't remember (fairly certain is was neither Lake Ann or yellow aster butte), but they didn't say anything about voulentary closures

None of those areas are state parks, to my knowledge. The national park is well to the east.
