Default Ski Helitrope (Hockey skates next time)nov 19

Story Mike Traslin/photos Andy Traslin/Mike Traslin

As the brother and I hiked up the ridge towards Helitrope, the winds were fierce, giving us second thoughts.Once on the glacier we put our G3 skins on our skis and quickly realized we were going to be skiing pure ice.Should have brought hockey skates I joked with Andy.Glad we brought our crampons.Twenty minutes of climbing brought us to the top. After a couple of turns in downhill mode,I stopped.'Hey Andy'I yelled, the conditions are boiler plate, get into ski race mode. After four laps of GS turns it was time to call it a day.Skiing conditions like that had me thinking about the Crazy Canucks downhill ski team flying down pure ice slopes on there 210's.Next time in these conditons I am going to carry race gates and set up a giant slalom course.Ha!Ha!Mark Giradelli would be proud!

Like Doug Coombs once said, edging skills or hospital bills.
I would recommend the snowblades, they might be better in those conditions.Ease off with those portrait shots!
