5.10 Guide Almighty's are a great shoe for scrambling but if you wear them around town, will be worn out in under 6 months. Pavement and sticky rubber together result in a quick death.

I recommend this trip to all hikers and scramblers, once you're on the rock it's super grippy, not too much exposure. The 5.10 shoes are the way to go I have a couple of pairs. One for free ride mountain biking and another lighter pair for multi pitch climbing in Squamish and any other scramble type approaches.

I always like seeing trip reports on these 2 mountains, because of how good the rock is.

That rock looks a lot like the south peak of the Old Settler. Dru?

Dru 09-25-2008 07:29 PM

It's pretty close to the same thing, they are both ultramafic, but one is dunite (Twin Sisters) and one isn't (Old Settler)

Same rock occurs on Sunshine Mountain and a couple other places in the Cadwallader Range. There's a beautiful boulderfield of the stuff east of Sunshine in a tributary of Crazy Creek just waiting for the highball pad people to show up for some hard problems.
