Aug Long Weekend on Olympic Coast Trail

To start off, this 4 days backpacking trip was put together on a last minute notice due to the closure of the Sea to Sky Highway. My buddy and I decided to tackle this pristine coastline of Washington and we were not disappointed.

Our journey started at Lake Ozette Ranger Station where we collected our permits, tide chart and bear canisters then we proceeded 5 km down the boardwalk to Cape Alava where we made our first rest stop.

I took this opportunity to hike up 1 km north to an Indian Village Archeological Site.

After an hour, we continued on our way to Sand Point where we would make our home for the night.

Day two was a 11 km hike to Norwegian Memorial with some amazing beaches and time consuming boulder fields.

The sun came out as we arrived at our campsite.

Day three, we hiked back to Sand Point due to the lack of transportation to contact up the two trailheads. It was foggy in the morning but the sun came out once again in the afternoon.

Don't ask me what happened. This is what was left of my buddy hiking boots.

If you ever decide to attempt this trail, the water source looks scary.

What a beautiful place!! That was almost my destination for this weekend, but we decided to go to the North Cascades instead as it was closer. Definitely on my to-do list.

There is no doubt about the beauty of this place. It is really a hidden gem where the majority of the people hike the Loop of Ozette, Cape Alava and Sand Point. The North and South Coast Trail are hardly used, we must of saw a handful of people... very relaxing for sure. I would highly recommend it as a "must do".

Wilderness_seeker, it looks like your group had a wonderful time in the Cascades.

Cool report! Did you find out what the Eagle feather on the bone was about?
