Default Picture Lake and Artist's Point July 19

Not a whole lot of hiking involved since Exy's now 8 1/2 months along, but we (well I) was up there more for the photo ops anyway. Neither of us have ever been to this area in the summer, so it was quite diffeent seeing the area for the most part without snow.

We started with Picture Lake:

Don't know the family, but it was a good photo op.

Krista, Exy, and her mom at Picture Lake

Onward to Bagley Lake:

Now to Artist Point:

Snow aplenty still there.

Back down to Picture Lake for some early evening shots.

Some help from the Cokin P173:

Gorgeous lake shots, just need to catch that special day and time, not an easy thing to plan.

Looks like a great day out, Tim. Wow - tons of snow up there!

That cokin effect is pretty sweet [8D]

Tim-

Did you drive to the upper parking lot (Artist point) or was the road still closed at the lower lot?

I took my brother-in-law up there 2 weeks ago and there was about 5' of snow along the road. Last year it was almost Aug 1 before the road was open if i remember correctly.

Nice pics as usual! I was wondering how much snow was still up there - a whole lot! Guess I won't be hiking up there for awhile.

Cheers!

They just opened the upper parking lot a few days ago. There's still some walls of snow against the road that must be a good 10 feet high or more. A few people were still skiing from the upper parking lot down the side of Table Mtn to the lower parking lot.
Not much in the way of wildflowers out there yet.

Now that I know the upper parking lot is open I may take my visiting family members up. I expected it to open when the snow melted -mid August or so.

Tim.

Good name for the destinations; Picture Lake makes for some very pretty pictures with that mountain in the background.

I noticed. It seems a good place to visit when you're expecting and a regular hike is no longer really a realistic expectation

I'm taking the family to Whistler for the August long weekend. We're going hiking in the alpine And she'll be 7 months at that point.

Gee, I wonder why they call it Picture Lake??

These shots explain why Shuksan is one of the most photographed mountains in the USA (easy access helps too).
