Mount Baker was a long time anticipated trip. Four of us (Ravil, Stefan, Pavel and Nikolai) waited for a stretch of good weather for three weeks. Finally the weather forecast was promising and last Monday we went. We left Vancouver at 6:00AM. The border crossing wasn't a problem. When we signed in at the ranger station we were "encouraged" by a ranger. He told us that the weather was really nasty for the last two days - strong winds and a complete whiteout, and no one summitted.
We drove up the Glacier Creek road and we park our Jeep at the elevation 985 m, roughly 2.5 km before the parking lot.

First day. The Beginning of the trip. I'm checking my watch and the elevation. We set off for the trail just before 10:00AM


The bridge across Glacier creek was washed out. We had to cross the creek.

The second day - the ascent. We woke up at 3:00AM. A very quick breakfast and we were on our way up at 4:30AM.

We summited at 9:30AM. It was sunny, but windy at the top. The views were amazing. We were above the clouds.

Going down.
We didn't spend a lot of time at the summit. A quick snack and we went down at 10:00AM

We were almost at the base camp when clouds began to roll in.


We returned back at the base camp slightly after the noon. Twenty minutes later clouds came in. It was a complete whiteout then again. It was a perfect timing for us. We cooked a light lunch then went down at 3:00PM. The way down was almost uneventful, except a crossing the creek. Walking over the log was exciting. We we back at the truck just before 6:00PM. It was a very successful trip. We was able to find a perfect time window for the good weather to summit.

Baker is always a neat place to go....a classic event. Sometimes the weather says you can go, and you were fortunate. Nice pictures.

Regarding the perfect timing. It was everything - Ravil's experience, a good luck and an old superstition. I wasn't allowed to brush my teeth in the morning not to spoil the good weather.
