Default Alger Alp & Squires Lake May 26, 2008

Redhead and I met up this morning for a little jaunt to Squires Lake and Alger Alp south of Bellingham.

Side note:
We had initially planned to go to Orcas Island for the day, but I had an unfortunate grass allergy attack yesterday at my son's rugby game. It started w/one bump on my ankle and within 30 minutes, my lower legs were puffed up and crazy itchy (all the rugby dads were telling me how sexy my legs looked[:0])...by the time I got home and popped the Benadryl, I was feeling horrible and slept the entire rest of the day. This morning, I still felt awful at 5:30am and went back to sleep..but finally at 7:30am, I was up and feeling better...that was definitely one of my worst attacks...

Anyhooooo....I haven't seen Daryl in about 6 months and was anxious to hear about his recent 'excellent' adventure in South Africa. I was even more excited when he drove up with his new hiking companion "Dusty" who is just 12 weeks old. awwwwwwwwww

Stats for this little hike if you do it right: 6 miles round trip and approx. 1000 ft elevation gain. #45 in the Hiking Whatcom County Book.

We couldn't figure out where the trailhead was (doh! It was just 1/2 mile further up the road) and we ended up hiking up a logging road for a lot of the way.....this was a little annoying, but it was our own fault for not driving further.
the wrong place to start

the long and winding road

turnoff to the ridge trail

our 'summit'

Lake loop trail

We lunched at what we thought was the 'summit' and it was a long way down to I-5 below us...the views weren't stunning, but it was good steady uphill and kind of cool to see things from up there.

Dusty dug himself a cozy spot during lunch

Too tired to walk

We went back down the same way and got onto the Squires Lake Loop Trail. We passed a few fishermen and came out where we should have started..1/2 mile from where we parked.

Nothing compared to some of these gorgeous TR pics I've seen lately..but...exercise is exercise and we enjoyed our day out...thanks Daryl!

Awww cute puppak!
Instead O' grass allergy, you could have embellished a bit and really scared everyone at the game.....hmmm.

1. My son got an iquana....I think I got a reaction?
2. Sorry, never tried "nair" before...hehe
3. Friend broght back yak fur socks from a recent trip to Jo-burg.

Nice TR! Ahhhhh trees! Trees! and humidity! yes!

Heading into the desert mountains in Arizona next weekend and taking some co-workers to a place they couldn't find twice with my crappy directions. [V]So, I feel kinda bad and I will take them, myself....D'oh!
