Default Mt Erie Revisited & Conquered Jan 6

I drug my sister out of bed by her hair this morning and told her...okay...begged her...to go for a hike with me. Since sissy is not an early riser on her days off, we didn't leave the house till 10am.

Then, after an absolute clusterfu*#[email protected] of a time trying to find a gas station that didn't charge $.75 to put air in my freaking tires..what the hell?, we were finally on the road...

Of course, it had to be Mt Erie this time since I found my "Hiking the San Juan Islands" book (Hike #16) that I forgot I had, PLUS...a newly purchased ACFL trail map. I was very curious if the view was actually better from up there. So off we went.

We started from the base of Mt Erie Road..same as last time..and did the same Sugarloaf hike as last week. The views weren't as grand from Sugarloaf due to clouds. Then we dropped down to Mt Erie road and then up again till we reached Mt Erie summit.

Amazing what a little ol' trail map will do for your adventures.

Our summit celebration was short-lived because after about 10 minutes, it began to snow..and it was blowing hard too.

The trip down was a lovely combo of road and trail (NOT). We ended up going back up to Sugarloaf summit and down the other side. I hadn't really planned on going UP again..but for some unknown reason, I thought we should go back down the same way Cali and I had the week before instead of travelling all on the road.

Total time out was 3 1/2 hrs. Total cups of sweat removed from my brassiere: 3.

Thanks for coming out to play sissy!

That's me and Clifford

This wasn't there last time..poor tree.

Sissy freezing her niblets on Sugarloaf

Almost at the top of Erie

Tragedy

Looking down from Erie:

Baker's somewhere in those clouds

Hugging the big ass tree in my $4.99 Sierra Designs Goodwill jacket..yeehaw!

Oh..and, I guess the views are better from the higher hill

Chaos, Panic & Disorder----my work here is done.

Fuzzy signage....ha ha too funny. And here I thought it meant that
the signs weren't very "clear" or helpful. But, they actually
"ARE" fuzzy....I'm laughing again. You should write children's books or sumpin' You've got a real flair. I'm still laughing at the fuzzy signage. I would love to hike up and actually see that much water. I guess the desert is an ocean. When I flew into Phoenix last time, the lady began with her instruction on the unlikely event of a "WATER" landing....she stopped and said"
Aw, hell that ain't gonna happen folks...chuckled and said let's move on to the seatbelt. Everyone on the plane roared.

Nice pictures. Brrrr....

What was the rock area like that the victim fell from? Did you see the area? Just curious how far he fell, sad story indeed.

Well..the memorial stone was right at the top of Mt Erie near the cell towers..there were lots of little trails on top that went straight to the edge in different directions because apparently that's where the rock climbers like to launch themselves from. The main lookout areas were fenced..but the rest of the area was open. There was a sign that said to watch your children on these trails because most of them drop off to nothing. My pics are all from the fenced lookouts because I'm a pansy..but at the bottom of this pic, it shows what it looked like pretty much all around there. Just drop off.

Taken near his memorial stone

One of the pathways leading to the fenced lookout..or the other way..to the edge.
