Default Fall Spectacular on Yellow Aster Butte

As soon as I saw last year's TRs on Yellow Aster Butte, I knew I had to do this trail in the fall. Paula and I spent a weekend in the Mount Baker area, and jumped at the chance to hike this trail and the little jewel that is Sauk Mountain (hopefully I'll get to those pictures in this century). In the meantime, here's YAB.

Meadows at the beginning of the trail:

Baker, grand in the morning light:

We hit snow as soon as we emerged from the forest. Views were twice as good for it.

Spectacular scenery and colours all around:

Now, I'm not sure if this is the butte or not. But this is what we went up.

It was steady climbing in about a foot a snow. In the steep parts the slippery grass made for some treacherous terrain.

A very big Baker:

Little people:

Summit 360 degree pano. You guys tell me if we were on the butte or not.

Tomyhoi:

Shuksan:

Border peaks (?):

(Fill in the blanks)

Summit shot:

Cornice:

Serious fun coming down:

Looking back:

Blueberryliciousness!

Some beautiful shots in there. The Butte summit looks like this.

The trail comes up on the right, goes over the hump, then along to the pointy summit at left. The twin peaks of Goat along with Serfit behind.

Aha! So I guess we were on the hump to the right of your picture, correct? It was hard enough to get there on the slippery grass, proceeding along something more steep was unfortunately out of the question.

Very inspiring! Each season has its' charms [8D]

This reminds me of an ad in an REI catalogue . . . someone boasting about great, realistic views on their new 30' plasma TV ("you should see the views"). The couple sitting on top of a mT looking a view like one of yours say, "WE will put it on our to do list"

Your TR title says it well. Awesome beautiful colours in your shots, and complimented by the snow.

Nice [8D]
