Default Heliotrope Ridge August 26, 2006 (Awesome)

When I tried to get to Heliotrope Ridge (Coleman Glacier lookout) earlier this month we were turned back by rain and snow (trail report: https://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topi...TOPIC_ID=17576).

This time the weather co-operated for Skyhawk, Arthur and myself with sunny, clear blue skies. The views up on Heliotrope are beautiful, very awe-inspiring. We truly do live in an amazing part of the country!

1) 2) 3) 4)

1) Mt. Baker
2 & 3) Wild looking fungi
4) At the first waterfall

5) 6) 7) 8) 9)

5) On the trail
6) Group shot
7, 8, & 9) Glacier shots

10) 11) 12) 13)

10) Lunch break
11) token flower picture (gotta get a camera with a macro setting)
12) Arthur
13) Under the ice

14) 15) 16) 17)

14) Is this the top of Baker?
15) What a view!
16) Arthur the Explorer
17) Skyhawk and Arthur on a snow field

18) 19) 20) 21)

18) Looking down to where most people stop
19) Heading back down
20) Skyhawk samples the glacier water
21) One of many pretty waterfalls

Even though this is an extremely busy trail, it is probably one of the most beautiful areas I've been in. Thanks to Skyhawk and Arthur for hiking with me so I wasn't going solo. It's wonderful to hike with good company!

Cheers!

Great pictures!
How are the creek crossings in the afternoon? Any chance of not getting your feet wet? (dreaming on...)

My feet stayed dry thanks to good boots but Arthur, who was in sneakers, had damp feet after the PM crossing.

Cool looking trail. I may add this to my list soon before the rains come. Wonder how it would be as a snow shoe trip?

Nice pics. I really love trips in the Baker area - you can't go wrong IMO

I think this shot is really neat

I love hearing about success on a second trip after being turned back on your first try. Good going .
