Default Heliotrope Ridge

Decided to head south today on the reccomendation of a friend, and we were not dissapointed! Unbelievable scenery, despite the high traffic of the trail. It was so short, we barely felt like we had a workout!

Some of the runoff streams were pretty fun (or scary, depending who you ask) to cross, but otherwise it's a walk in the park.

Some falls directly off the main trail

Your view of Mt. Baker as you start to come out of the forest

A close up of the edge of the glacier from where we stopped for lunch

We scrambled up a bit after the end of the ridge, and had a lookout from a rock bluff.

View of the summit after our short scramble.

Yours truly with summit in the background. Hat is backwards so the flash can light my face

All in all, some amazing stuff, and it has only added fuel to the fire in my desire to summit some peaks.

I had considered this hike a couple weeks ago, but ended up hiking the Lake Ann trail instead. After seeing your photos I definitely will have to make a trip up there to that glacier. How was the condition of the road to the trailhead?

The road is pretty narrow, but for the most part it's fine as long as you take it slow. I drive a 2wd car and had no troubles at all. That's not to say there weren't potholes, as there were a few that could have posed a problem, but they were avoidable if I was travelling slow enough.

Um I believe the guide we used lists it as 6 miles, so 10km round trip (give or take). I think we were 5 hours return, with lots of play time at the top, and a few delays due to crazy stream run off.

Very nice!
Heliotrope has been high on my list for too long, and your photos have reminded me it's time for a trip down that way
