Default Torres del Paine

Unfortunately we only had 6 days in the park so we had to choose between the crowded "W" or the less traveled "O" circuit. We chose the latter, missing out on the alpine experience but seeing much more of this beautiful park. It also gives us a reason to go back, although I think I would rather go in the South American fall closer to winter as the crowds (and the wind) would both be significantly smaller.

We started our circuit at Laguna Amarga in the afternoon and hiked counter-clockwise for a little over 100 km over the next 6 days. Dickson camp was beautiful, sitting at the end of Lago Dickson with backdrop of mountains and glaciers, and icebergs floating right up to the shore of the lake. Pictures do it no justice.

True to all of the warnings, and despite getting mostly sun, we did get a summer snow storm, and it was the night before and day of going over John Gardner pass. At the top of the pass the wind gusts were literally knocking us off of our feet, but it was well worth it. The views of Grey glacier we received all afternoon while descending from the pass were amazing. Again, pictures don't do it justice.

We rewarded ourselves at the end of the hike with a night in Hotel Las Torres. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in, and another reason to go back to the park.
