Gibraltar Mtn - the Canadian Halfdome
Correction: this route is not for Gibraltar Mtn, but for its lower outlier called the Canadian Halfdome.
The Canadian Halfdome is an eye catching mountain in the Sheep River Valley. I discovered an easy route
by accident after my attempt on Burns. If you take your bike, this mountain can be done in
5-7 hours round trip. I heard that the Sheep River trail has been severely damaged after the 2013 floods,
so it may take you longer to get to the objective.
Drive to the end of Highway 546 and park in the Bluerock/Junction Creek lot. Bike or hike the Sheep
River trail for 7 or 8 km until you go passed the Halfdome. Cross the river and start
walking towards an obvious orange gully on the northwest side of the mountain. From the col
simply follow the easy ridge to the summit. Have fun!
