Default New - Magellan Triton Series

http://www.gpscentral.ca/products/ma...triton2000.htm

I love my Megellan Meridian Gold, but now since it's discontinued and I've been drooling a little over the Garmin 60CSx, I've been looking into upgrading.
I found my Magellan was quicker to get a lock and held it better than the comparable Garmin but Magellan's support (ie. updates) was severly lacking. They're making promises that this will no longer be the case. I also found it much more intuitive to use.
This new GPS is overloaded with features, a fashlight, MP3 player, 2mp camera, a sound recorder, plus a 3 axis compass, a barometer and touch screen and the new Sirf chipset.
I think the thing I like best is that it will accept raster maps, which means no longer being quite so locked into which software is useable with the gps. The National Geographic Topo maps are available for it (though they don't have any Canadian topos).
This may very well be the next new "toy" I buy.

Just some follow up info. Here is the link to the discussion on the geocaching forums about the new Triton. It's up to 5 pages now, but most of the useful info is on the first page.

One of the interesting things that have come up is that the Triton is using WindowsCE as its OS.

This link is to some pictures of the Triton, from another gps forum.

I think this may very well be the next gps I invest in, but I'll be waiting at least 6 months from it's initial release date before getting one. That should give them sometime to shake the initial bugs out of the system.

Marc

That looks like the future of hand held GPS technology. Mind you, I think I will stick with my very limited yellow etrex for a couple more years while they work the bugs out and boost performance. Soon as they get to a decent 4 or 5 MP camera I'll be ready to jump in as that will replace 2 pieces of equipment rather than just upgrading one.

I'm looking to you early adopters to help all this along!
