This used to be a great sight where people with similar interests could come and discuss those interests. For those to share their experiences with others. A spot to share information about hikes/climbs/camping. A place to find friends and to get out and enjoy nature together. Now it's been reduced to this. You've taken a thread about the tragic death of two young climbers and turned it into your own petty battle ground. I've run into other ClubTread folks out on the trail, at the climbing gym and out at the crag and they ask why I don't post TR's or organize hikes anymore. This is why...

You truly are ruining this place for the rest of us. Please stop with constant bickering, fighting and accusations. Stop being so selfish and [u]please</u> give the rest of us our community back.

I'm tired of this... I'm going to go climb something while you children fight this out.

-Russ
You're right. It shouldn't have been like this. It was going well with the discussion on simul rap.....some good info is still in the thread....when the T2C accusation started, the can of worms was opened. I feel guilty about playing any part since the thread was about something so important, and I apologize to the forum for that.

Actually, Sandy,T2C and I are the same person and have used the T2C persona to yank your chains. Would that be said as BWHAAHAA, or some such nonsense? Just joking!

Kevin has been degraded to"lurker" status along with cambium. I don't mind them lurking or even posting, with certain restrictions. Could they be allowed to post only in the lodge section? I'm just tired of them dominating every thread with their brand of vitriol.

Sandy has good reason to suspect T2C, as he has focused on her, with his diatribe, when he has found himself up against someone that has a different opinion from him and when he can't back it up with real life experience.

Kevin is a wantabe mountaineer that can surf the net for information. Sandy is a true mountaineer through and through. Anyone having a problem with her posts, just get over it.

Peter

That's interesting...I was just wondering what became of cambium! He frequently made no sense, but he seemed harmless and well intentioned.

Cambium "harmless"? Reread some of the stuff he said about me. He lives in my area and has gone back to scrawling his messages on rocks and public signs, after getting kicked off a local forum.

Nobody got T2C or Cambium kicked off Club Tread. They did it themselves.

And... we're back on track.

From what I'm reading here it sounds more likely that it was some kind of equipment failure. I'm still fairly new to climbing so I may be incorrect (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing). It states that the anchors were good and that they have an idea of what happened based on some photos and gear still attached. The part that makes me think it was some kind of failure is the final statement "There is no fault between either one of them". If one forgot to tie a knot in the end of the rope or didn't use their equipment properly that would constitute some form of fault. I'm interested in finding out what happened exactly so that we can all learn from this. It was certainly in the back of my head while climbing last night and it will no doubt be with me in Skaha this weekend.

Happy climbing everyone! Keep it safe.

quote:CALGARY - Sources have identified the second person who died during a tragic rock climbing accident near Canmore, Alta.

Ranjit Sidhu, 31, of Calgary and Jane Vuong, 25, plunged about 100 metres to their deaths Sunday afternoon while rappelling off a rock face in the Heart Creek day use area, about 80 km west of Calgary.

The two were on a six-pitch, 180-metre long climbing route called Sciatica on the Amphitheatre Wall area of Heart Creek.

One came off the rope and as there was nothing to hold the other, the rope pulled through the anchor.

Mike Koppang, Kananaskis Public Safety Specialist, said Monday a photo taken of the pair rappelling before the fall and the gear that was still attached to them gave officials an idea of what happened.

Permanent bolts are fixed to the rock face, but there is no indication anything was wrong with them.

"What we have is a tragic accident," said Staff Sgt. Brad Freer with Canmore RCMP.

"There is no fault between either one of them."

I don't think the RCMP should be speaking about climbing safety.

Ok well...now that this thread has been derailed into this: I accuse Sarah Goodwife, as only her crops are prospering this summer. I accuse Rebecca Snowshoes because I saw her levitating behind the barn. Finally I accuse Rachelo, because I saw her conspiring with Goodwife in whispered tones behind the town hall. They are all T2C.
I have photographic evidence that the two of us are separate people.

If there are people you consistently don't want to read, add them to your ignore list, and continue to read only the parts of the forum that interest you. I'm not going to say you shouldn't be bothered by arguments, but it's not necessary to lose the rest of the site over it.

Without any specifics as to what actually happened, I don't trust the words from the RCMP. But then, I usually find it all a matter of speculation unless someone can give a first-hand report. Too many details get lost by uneducated media filtration.

In any case it's a terrible tragedy for these families and should serve as a remind to climbers to check and recheck their systems. And also I think to remember that when you really start feeling comfortable rapping, that is the time to be most cautious.

It's like carpenters - beginner carpenters don't cut off their fingers. Carpenter that have been carpenters for ten years and are comfortable with their tools and perhaps complacent with their safety, are far more likely to cut off their fingers.

What manner of trickery be this?! Only one way can we be certain of thee. After you have been released from the summit on the dark side of Mount Saint Columbia, if thou cease to post, then thou are an upstanding woman. If thou shalt be seen to return to the forum, by ANY name, then thou art T2C.

Ahem, I have trouble trusting the RCMP at the best of times....

...but definitely it's a stretch when a reporter is translating from the RCMP, who are in turn translating from (hopefully)...experts. At least when the media directly interviews the experts we only have to deal with one level of interpretation....two, if count our interpretation of the report.

Cambium "harmless"? Reread some of the stuff he said about me.
OK. I never saw that stuff. I saw a couple of other regulars kicking the tar out of him, following him around and criticizing threads he started (not just the nonsensical ones, but ones the majority to think were valuable), and throwing terrible insults at him, which he did not return generally.

If he got crazy with you, then I wouldn't defend that.

Some people go on and on and on and on nonstop, like an energizer bunny idiot. If only they could see themselves as an outsiders view, spoiling somone elses thread, and how stupid they look, they should just shut up. That person knows who he is .

I'd like to say that there are several good points made by the contributors of this thread.
This is a very unfortunate sad story.

Yeah I mentioned one time that I was working for Hydro installing the new meters and not only did she launch a personal assault against my character on the thread but also sent me a couple emails calling me a nazi or something to that effect.

On the simul-rap topic, I'm willing to bet they might not have tied knots on the end of their line. Terrible accident.

I totally agree Aces. She should just shut up. Doesn't she know we say who can speak, and what they can say?! And look at her shoes! Eewwww. If she only knew what people were private messaging me about her. But not everyone can make super posts like these ones.... by the way, I like your new dress Aces!

Is this another Mean Girls marathon month on TBS or something?

Definitely did not know that she could become so threatening, maybe especially in private, as your story, and some of prother's examples demonstrate!
