Default Berg Lake Trail

Heading out to Mount Robson April 10. Does anyone know the Trail conditions, especially to Kinney Lake. Looking at using fat bikes to there. Thanks.

This picture was from May 6th of last year. The first kilometre and a half was bare and the last 3.0 kms was like this. We've had a better spring this year, but I think there will still be quite a bit of snow

Thanks lobo. BC Parks Ranger for that area is on holidays. This is our 5th (or 6th?) annual early/late spring trip there. Anywhere from Feb to May. Trip reports are hard to come by. We opted no fat bike this year.

The trip up to Berg last weekend was decent. 3 feet less snow than last year at this time (only 2 weeks earlier). No bikes. met two fella coming out and they ditched their bikes after 2 km. Trip report will be in the trip forum soon.

establishinstitution - August is a good time. Can be a tendency for a few less bugs but that is not guaranteed. Can be nice warm/hot weather but that is not guaranteed either. Just be prepared for mountain weather. Lots to do around your final destination. It would be a long haul in for 1 day. We usually stop at Whitehorn or Emperor as we drive from Edmonton the same day and start about noon. Enjoy.

We did went mid July a couple of years ago and it was beautiful weather, perfect really. One day to Berg Lake, next day Snowbird Pass (must do), third day back down. In retrospect I wish we had added a 4th day to hike up to Hargrave's glacier and up above Rearguard camp. I've since seen photo's taken from up there and the views of Mt. Robson and Robson Glacier and Berg Lake look amazing. So I highly suggest you add another night if you can, it also gives you a buffer day in case of poor weather. We go lucky with three days of sun but reading the logbook in the cabin, that does not seem to be the norm.

i do have a night on the way back as well, the plan is stay in jasper the thursday so we can be at robson early! start right when we get what we need from the visitor centre. get to rearguard (contemplating the biking option for the first bit) and two nights at rearguard. we stay at emperor falls on the third night. The plan is hike up day one. do snowbird pass day 2. day three i want to take the long way back and go by tobaggan falls and hargreaves glacier on the way to emperor falls. then hike out on the fourth day from emperor falls

I saw a friend's FB photos when they did it (Whitehorn) last week or so ago, and it was bare and dry to Kinney.. How was it when you went?

The only snow on the photos was when they got up to Emperor Falls, and it was negligible..
