Default International Women's Day

I enjoyed a lovely evening "Celebrating Women in the Fur Trade" for International Women's Day featuring Charlotte Small. It's remarkable that the journals of many men of the fur trade tribute a good deal of their success to the native women they married and travelled with. Sylvia Van Kirk has done considerable research on the women who were country wives, very little is written into our history but they played an instrumental role in keeping the Hudson Bay company men alive in a foreign land. These same women and their children were often left behind when their men retired from the company.
This is another evening of the bicentennial of David Thompson history. So fascinating...this really is an interesting year. I hope every other women of CT celebrated their position in history today.

My position in history? I don't have one at this time. And if I do, I am glad to live in a time where any position I get I can claim as a person, rather than just as a woman.
But the position of other people in history is certainly interesting.
