Default May long weekend campground prohibition

Banff NP (along with Yoho NP and Kootenay NP) have put a liquor ban in effect for their front-country campgrounds for the May long weekend. Good luck enforcing that one...

In general the rowdies go trash McLean Creek or Wiaparous anyway don't they?

They did it at Elk Island in 2000. About time they banned it in the other Parks. A**hole drunks.

Great. A few yahoos who can't handle their alcohol ruin it for those who can, and who like to quietly enjoy a bit of wine to complement a fabulous camp meal, or a cold beer during happy hour after a strenuous hike.

Yeah I guess it must be if they were moved to ban alcohol altogether. The few times I've been there have just been normal July or August weekdays/weekends and it seemed fine then. Some of the hostels, on the other hand...stay away!!

...and the people that will obey the rule are the ones that aren't the problem, the casual drinkers, wine at dinner, a few beers around the fire... The rowdies will find a way!

I too thought the issues were more in the off-road areas than the parks, but then, I don't normally camp on the regularly blizzarding May Long, and haven't really seen for myself. That really is too bad for the responsible people.
Luckily, I'll be down in the Livingstone.

You know, I've never seen anybody smoke a doobie, then go home and beat up his wife. Maybe eat her entire cookie jar...

And at least a roach is biodegradable, unlike a beer bottle.

Yeah, but Marijuana is a gateway drug. Once they hit that PCP and Chrystal Meth, all hell breaks loose.

And Booze is a gateway substance to yelling and knocking over signs.

They probably wouldn't hassle people having a couple beers at dinner, but I could be wrong.

I'm sure that was tongue and cheek but the main reason Marijuana can act as a gateway drug is prohibition. If you could acquire pot like alcohol or tobacco you simply wouldn't be in contact with drug dealers who could provide the harder drugs. Anyone seen "The Union" a new documentary that highlights B.C's 8 billion dollar+ cash crop.

You mean like a pusher, so you buy weed then he/she says try this for free and gets you hooked ? I seen that in the movies once too.

Not even pushing it so much as simply knowing where and having access. I know where I can buy alcohol, but no idea where I would find moonshine whiskey.

So if you could buy moonshine then you would but thankfully the goverment has regulated it for you so now you wont ?

I think drug addictions are a tad more complicated than that, and probably why the war on drugs has failed
