Default Logging roads into Shushartie Bay

Has anyone gone into Shushartie Bay via the network of logging roads around Georgie Lake recently? Would like an update since I am contemplating going by vehicle to the Trailhead rather than water taxi. Any recent info is greatly appreciated. Also any info on the difficulty of any bushwhack around the estuary to join the trailhead on the west side is once again welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

I've heard it can be done without too much difficulty, don't have much more info than that just heard a few things from locals when I was up that way.

Hi Wolverine, I have not been in for a couple of years, so I'm not sure of the conditions of the road. Also the estuary has the largest black bear population on the island, be careful.

You will be walking most of the way from near Lake of the Mountains based on what I saw when I was last up there in the fall. If you're going based on the roads shown on government maps many of those have been deactivated. I'm planning to check it out in the next couple weeks and will report back on how far you can get in a vehicle.

Hi Wolverine, my son and I hiked over logging roads from Georgie Lake to Shushartie River 2012 which took us a whole day. We camped on logging road. The next day we climbed down the river and hiked through the river because there was no other way, then through Shushartie Bay and along the shore mainly through the ocean (bushwhacking was almost impossible-we got stuck several times) and this took us for approx. 1km the whole day again to the trailhead of the NCT. Additionally we had bad luck with the weather-it was raining for 2 days. Also there were lots of bears in the area. It is tough but doable, but I knew we just got there when the rain started, if the water level is to high, just forget it.
