Default Brooks Peninsula – Part one

7 days hike overland and around
from 2nd May unil 8th May 2018
Two of us flew in from Germany to Vancouver, next day we took the plane to Campbell River where Luke – a local guy from Kyuquot - picked us up and after shopping we took the ride to Woss and then 4 hours on logging road and finally by boat to Kyuquot, where we stayed the night.
Next day (day 1) we went by boat near Jackobsen Pt. where we 3 were dropped of on the rocks.
The weather was quiet, no waves. We started right with bushwracking up hill and stayed away from the river, that comes from Empetrum Lake.

After 3 hours bush we came into lighter terrain and first time we realized were we were, fortunatly we were exactly where we wanted to and had the first unbeliveable view over the bush down to the beach we came from.

Due to travel already for 2 days and the jetlag, we felt our body, but nothing unexpected. Another 2 hours of moderate bushwracking and crossing ariver – quite steep up and down, we reached Empetrum Lake.

We were very lucky that the period before we started was very dry, so eather the rivers were high nor the lake, so we could easily hike along the lake for a short while.

Took a short break by the lake and entered the bush again up hill – steep but not heavy bush. Some more rocks and bush to climb, we came to our 1st camp right before Oxycoccus Lake in a wind protected area with good water – our fire ring of stones we built 2 years ago was still there, untouched!

to be continued....

Looks like a good start to a long trip.

Wilderness is not a luxury but necessity of the human spirit.

Hiking is what keeps you young of mind and heart. When the going gets tough, the tough get going..............
