Default Nootka Island

Just returned from leading a company group on Nootka. If planning on hiking, be aware of major blown down areas along the trail. Trees down will require over and undering, slowing pace and impacting schedules. Very active wolf presence.

I read somewhere that the local band does some minimal trail maintenance, but maybe it's too early in the season. I am hoping the tides work in our favor or at least time the tides as best we can to avoid as much of the blowdown as possible and hike on the beach/shelf.

the only maintenance that I have ever observed, in three trips there, was from Yuquot up to the first fording at Tsa'tsil.

I guess now would be the best time to get out there and do it before nature re-claims the trail if there is no official trail maintenance being done.

If I recall correctly most of the inland sections did not allow a low tide beach option

I am aware of that, as you get closer to Friendly Cove your only option is on the inland trails around the impassible headlands, but what I meant was that if you time the tides right you can avoid some of the inland trails closer to the start of the trail. Nice pics though... looking forward to it..
