Default Have you updated your firmware?

What the heck is firmware? Firmware is the software that controls your digital camera - everything from turning on to focusing is controlled by it. Without firmware your digicam would be nothing but an expensive paperweight. Be sure to check your manufacturer's website for updates! I got an email from Canon on Thursday that there was an update for my Pro1, so I downloaded and installed it. Not all updates are dramatic (or even noticeable for that matter), but in my case, the autofocus is now almost twice as fast, and the zoom is also quicker and more responsive! An early Christmas gift from Canon [8D]

That was one of the first things I checked for when I bought my Olympus.
Thanks for the reminder Jimbo!

Wow that's amazing but I guess expected. I don't yet have a digital camera but it brings to mind how they can upgrade and/or fix stuff on the space station or things like the hubble telescope!

Jimbo-do you have a website for the updates ? Also is firmware only available for recent digital cameras. i bought a Canon powershot about 3 years ago and registered it but have received no notifications form Canon about upgrades.

Here's a link to the powershot site, their archived products, and another to the download library. You should be able to find something from there. (When you navigate to your camera, there's also a "download library" link at the top of the page.) BTW, they don't automatically notify you about updates... you have to sign up for them.

Use google as well, I went through the canon.ca site to try and find firmware for my S1 IS, but it didn't have anything (just TWAIN and Zoombrowser updates). When I googled for "S1 IS firmware", I found a page on canon.jp with the firmware (It didn't need upgrading though).
