We were thrilled to spot a chamois in the wilds of the Swiss Jura during holidays recently. It provided an odd juxtaposition with the WWII pill boxes found along the French border.

I put the title and location info on the photo captions. I thought it would display when you click on the photo to enlarge it.
Since identifying lynx vs bobcat can be difficult, I asked Metro Van. parks if they could ID it. They referred it to one of their biologists who said it was a Canada Lynx. But I'm still not sure.

At least two animals from a herd of Roosevelt Elk have moved south from their herd's usual roaming areas in the North Pitt River area (about 50km away as the crow flies) to the estuary of Kanaka Creek about a block from where it meets the Fraser River, in Maple Ridge. These things top out at around 8 to 10 feet tall at the antlers, much bigger than the deer we see around here usually. They're truly amazing to see up close, and a little terrifying too.

Here's what the area where the animals are living looks like:

Here are the elk, along the stretch of Lougheed Highway. I took these around 11pm on a forty minute stakeout after having first seen them around 10pm the same night on my way home from Mission, where I fill my gas tank:

That's wild. Would be quite a commotion for a herd to end up in the city. Great pics.
