Here are some from yesterday's hunt:

Lobster mushrooms.

Golden chanterelles.

Zeller's boletes.

Cauliflower mushroom - 3lbs!

The haul, ready for cleaning. We cooked up some of the chanterelles, lobsters and cauliflower with a bit of garlic and cream, and ate them with pasta. Delicious. Half of the remainder we dried, and half we sauteed and froze. :-)

Here are some from last weekend:

Coral mushroom.

Violet cortinareus. We picked a couple and tried them at home. They were pretty inoffensive, but nothing special.

Angel wings. We picked a pound or so. Delicious and very nice texture.

Chicken of the Woods. Reading up on them, it sounds as if I should have brought them home. : )

You only eat the outside edge of them that is very soft.
The rest is to tough and does not taste very good.

How to tell which to eat.
Drop a pointed knife from 6 inches above into it going from outside to inside.
Where the point goes right threw is eatable and the rest is to tough.

This is a great thread!

I have found a couple of polypore mushrooms up on Burke Mountain which I believe to be either Ganoderma Tsugae or Ganoderma Oregonense. Have any of you found true varnish conks / ganoderma specimens (not including artists conk) in the area?

One thing I should note is that the mushroom was somewhat old so had lost most of it's sheen and texture, as well as the ability to take a spore print.

Here is a picture of the mushroom.

Thanks
mountaincarlos

Great thread! I'm a big fan of mushrooms, especially on my dinner plate

These two are from some 2012 trips:

Pine mushrooms I believe (Kettle Crest, eastern WA)

I have no idea what this is; looks like it's bleeding (Shulaps Range, south Chilcotins)

Doesn't look like a pine mushroom to me!

Perfect description for the second picture. Googling 'bleeding mushroom' produces this wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydnellum_peckii
