Default Today in the Backyard

Hey CTers - Spring has sprung

So, how about a little peak into the backyard? I know a few CTers are fortunate enough to have the wilderness right at the backdoor, but just because you don't have deer peaking through the gate, doesn't mean that Mother Nature isn't out there doing her thing.

Not looking for an entire photo journal of your garden for the last ten years, but here's a spot to share an occasional special picture. Maybe you've captured some stupid squirrel tricks at the bird feeder, frost on the pumpkin, or the three feet of snow that landed on the driveway. You might want to get up close and personal with the bugs and blossoms.

No yard? How about the view from the balcony. Please, no 800mm zoom shots through the window of the stewardess that lives across the street.[:0] Let's keep it to one or two shots or a story, from our own yards, shall we

Here's a couple I shot this morning to start off

I have the same problem with squirrels. They like to eat tulip bulbs, and also chew through the stalks of giant sunflowers.

CJack, I think that yellow bush might be forsythia.

Anyway, the pics I have are actually from my Mom's backyard.

I'm told that hummingbirds usually arrive in Vancouver on St. Patrick's Day. The ones at my mom's arrive a few weeks after that (in Langley).

I read something from a birder last week. He said that hummingbirds come back to the coast mid March. He said it's time to put your feeders out. He also suggested a 50% solution of sugar and water as opposed to 25% sugar. He also said honey is not good to put in the feeders. And, if you happen to have avian vitamins, a couple of drops in your sugar mix would be good. They have flown an extremely long distance, and could use the calories and nutrients.
Now, if I could just get my hummingbird feeder to stop leaking.
