Default Photo of the day

A new thread for all photos relevant to hiking and related topics, taken anytime. Recent or not so recent preferred, and posting scans of your old SLR slides is OK.

I'll start with a photo of Howe Sound entrance from Mt Harvey summit, BC.
The two big islands are Bowen on the left and Gambier on the right. Sunshine Coast behind Gambier. Vancouver Island in the distance.

Confused. What makes something a photo of the day? Also, how is it a photo of the day if it's taken anytime?

RGB , download the photo to your computer and then upload it here. Photos should be 1mb or under . 800X600 I believe is the default.

When I have seen these threads in other forums, they have been interesting. It seems to work best when the photos are recent.

Tofino last weekend:

I still don't get it. The thread you posted just shows thousands of random photos and in many cases posters post more than one photo. What's the point? What's the theme? Why not just title the thread "Photos"?

Many photo hosting sites have highlight features. Flickr has Explore, 500px has Popular, National Geogragphic has Daily Dozen. What is the point of scrolling through pages and pages of themeless photos in a forum when you can do that on dedicated photo sharing sites?

If the point is to share some good photos, why not use ClubTread's themed threads? If there isn't one, why not start one with a theme?

Five favorite pictures of the year:

and even Party Balloons:

I just don't get a "Photo of the day" when it's not even "of the day."
I think that the theme is largely defined by the forum. This is a fairly specialized forum (hiking in BC/Alberta,) and I don't know if any further constraints are needed. It's unlikely that people will post pictures of auto-racing in this thread.

Leaving it completely open allows people to be creative about what they post and to share photos that might not fit into a specific format (such as a themed thread or trip report.)

I do think that it makes sense to request that the photos are somewhat recent. That way it allows you to see how other members are capturing the shifting seasons through their own lenses. The thread becomes a visual story of the year.

I like the idea because I think it's an example of something that can be done to ensure that each time you visit the site, there is something new, interesting and positive.

If the photo is somewhat recent, it could be somewhat interesting. Even if the photo was not good, at least it could show conditions of a certain area. Perhaps "Photo of the Week" would be a more suitable title. However, looking at the EXIF info, RGB's photo dates back to 2011.

Really Marko?

Man you must have been livid with Warner Brothers after watching "The NeverEnding Story".

You must be used to the specific topics on already existing photo threads.
How about something different...
Photo of the day can mean a photo you decide you want to post today.
A recent scan of an old slide you took using your SLR camera.

But it has to be your photo and has to follow the CT rules and guidelines.
If you want to post someone else's photo, that's OK if you have their permission, or if it's without any copyright, as in Wikimedia commons.

Confused, not livid. Are you saying you get this thread? I don't recall being bothered by The NeverEnding Story. I gave it 6/10 on IMDb.

That photo could go in this thread Marko
"Snags......A Photo Essay"
https://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topi...rchTerms=snags

Or wildlife, nice robin []

When I think of "a photo a day" thing it is usually one photographer (but could be a group) with a theme or objective. I've used that method myself to get out of a rut like in the winter when I just need a boost to go out with my camera. I often challenge a friend to do likewise, sort of like a workout buddy, it makes you accountable to the process.

For example, your theme today could be "orange" - go shoot something orange. Makes you see things differently and push your creative limits and the limits of your gear.

Random photos work well on a format like Instagram.

Just my <s>2 cents</s> 5 cents
