Neat Flickr trick for showing trip reports

I've had a Flickr account for a while, but for trip reports I was using Fotki. I like how Fotki displayed individual albums as a giant tree on one page. I could see all my albums dating back 12 years.

Recently Fotki has had issues delivering on obligations to their customers. They've changed plans and structures with no notice, without honoring already paid for service. Even the reliability of the sites seems to have gone down. This forced me to start moving my trip reports to Flickr.

Flickr allows the user to create "Sets" for photos and structure sets using "Collections." Display of these is a bit clunky. Flickr only allows you to see so many sets per page. Finding a Set quickly can be tricky, especially if you have albums dating back 12 years.

I recently figured out how to solve this issue and thought it might be worth sharing for all those who use Flickr in a similar fashion. I've realized that I can just recreate the navigation structure using html links in the Collection description.

So this how I display my albums for 2012:

I've also created a collection called "Chronological" where I have links to ALL albums. Unfortunately, it has been taking me a while to move all my albums over, so right now I just have 2012 and part of 2011.

Hope this gives Flickr users another way to organize their albums!

Interesting... I got annoyed with the 'busyness' of flickr a few years back and I'm very happy with Zenfolio for hosting my photos. Bookmarking this for my slower winter months to play with though. Thanks Marko, keep us abreast of your latest tweeks, appreciated!

That has to be some serious work Marko to move all your TR from Fotki to Flickr

Yeah it's a huge pain, but I'm finding lots of things I'm liking better at Flickr.

I have 7000 photos on Webshots, they recently underwent a change, and Webshots recreating themselves as "Smile" have lots of bugs. I am not laughing so have been prompted to upgrade on Flicr. Have not moved anything over as yet.

Thanks Marko, neat tip. I also like the Flickr community where you can initiate threads about almost anything - like here. Big tip to anyone would be to exercise restraint by editing out the duds - volume doesn't equal quality.
