Default Winter in the Rockies, let's get started

It's been great for snow in Jasper and Banff and winter has only officially started today!

I was in Jasper and Banff over the weekend. Marmot is exceptional and there was a bunch of snow already in the lower valleys.

This photo is of a spring creek near Athabasca Falls, taken Saturday.

I'd love to see more winter photos here.

This is from an evening tour up to Chester Lake. Because it was -30, I only had one shot at this 15 minute exposure.

It is an amazing winter so far. Our fall was warmer than normal and the winter came on so fast and so hard that the leaves didn't have a chance to fall off the trees. Here are some winter shots I recently took

These are from just outside the plant I operate here in Jasper. It was -35 deg. outside

These are from the Snaring River

And here are a bunch on my Flickr site. These aren't all from this year

Really nice pictures everyone. Let's keep them coming.
Packrat, thanks for breaking trail into Nigel. I know where I'm going skiing tomorrow

I second Lobo. Great pics. I hope we can keep this thread going thru winter.

This is shot below Mt. Wilson looking west as an afternoon fog was rolling in over the North Saskatchewan River or what little there was of it. Is this Graveyard Flats? Anyone?

Lobo,

You need to thank the other members of the Parkland XC Ski Club as I don't think I ever caught up to the front of the line to break any trail.

We were up Nigel on Dec. 19, the weather was great and there is a lot of snow.

It really doesn't matter who broke trail, the pictures are really, really good. I'm off in the morning for Nigel and I'm happy that I don't have to break trail all the way in.

I did enjoy your recent description of the difference between "cold" & "hurting cold" though Dan. http://danjurak.wordpress.com/2010/0...ing-it-simple/

Thank you Sodbuster.

I should have mentioned that neither type of cold is as bad as the "brain freeze" from drinking too cold a drink on the beach.

Now that's cold!

Yeah I'm prone to those. I got one so bad from a daiquiri it went right into my chest... I'm staggering around with my thumb jammed into the roof of my mouth trying to get it to stop. Judging by the amusement it gave my kids I put on quite a show. Some day I'll die of a heart attack and they'll be quoted as saying "We thought he was just fooling around."
