Thought it would be a good idea to have something a little out of the ordinary this month. So this month's theme is wilderness outhouses.

The outhouse photo can be any structure "designated" as a toilet facility. It should be a wilderness/backcountry one that you have encountered while out on the trail.

REGULAR NOTES:

Looking for your submissions for the photo of the month. You can be honored as the outdoor photographer for the month. It doesn't matter if it is digital or SLR, as long as you can submit it in an electronic form. Format should be 640x480, JPG, any quality level you like, max file size 512K.

Each person can only submit one photo for that particular month. Submissions can continue until the 20th. Submissions are made by replying to this thread and including your photo in the reply. Also include some info as to where the photo was taken, etc.

People will then have an opportunity to vote on the picture from the 21st of the month until the end of that month. The photo with the most votes can be set as the photo of the month. On the 21st of this month, send your vote to photovote@clubtread.com.

Mine is the outhouse, or should I say, outtent at Everest Base Camp. It's the blue, tall tent at the end of the prayer flags...not the kind of place where you expect to find a magazine rack or a shampoo bottle to read!

This is the outhouse at Deep Lake on the Chilkoot trail. Notice that it is on wheels. There are two tanks underneath. When one gets full, the house is rolled over to the other one. Then a helicopter is called in to haul away the full one and empty it.

A range told me that the cost of this and other maintenance means that the cost per hiker per day on the Chikloot works out to about $35.

I'm with Patrick. I'm submitting one from the Chilkoot Trail as well. This one was taken at the summit of the Chilkoot Pass. It hangs on the edge overlooking Crater Lake.

It was a toss of which to submit though. I have some pics of some pretty cool outhouses from the WCT.

I didn't use that one but Carol did. Remember the day we went through there were gale force winds. She described the experience as "unique".

At least you had a designated place. From what I gathered the latrine at base camp seems to roam around from season to season.

Out of Country Outhouses
This Paragraph below sums up the pictures you are about to see and which I encounter for 19 days travelling through in China.

One of the great things about visiting another country is having the opportunity to experience a new culture and a different way of life. However, there are times when these cultural differences can hit you like a tons of bricks.

It is that way up! squatting builds strong legs.
that's what I kept tell myself.

You know,I don't have a single photo of an outhouse.Rapscallion's pic has got to be a strong contender,especially when you get -30 temps and 100 km winds blasting you while you're in that tent!Hey,if anyone's been to Berg Lake,there's one there that you can sit on the throne and look out at Berg Lake,Berg Glacier,and Mt.Robson.Quite impressive...
