This is one of the residents of the coastal waters off Maui. I was snorkeling off the west coast off approximately Mile Marker 14 on Highway 30 in about 5 fathoms of water. I had to dive down about 2 fathoms to get the turtle clearly. There were about a dozen sea turtles in the area that were curious about my wife and I. The shot was taken through a disposable underwater camera. I wasn't sure how waterproof the camera would be (ie. how deep it would be waterproof).

I thought it would be something different from all the other great pics of land-bound creatures. Not really hiking, but still self-propelled.

Na , na , na ... Bonk ! This is suppost to be critters on a HIKE. And I think local to the Pacific Northwest.
Very nice shot I have to admit. Best I ever got was a trout underwater.
Gotta be local stuff.Does this count <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Oops! One more (although I'm not at home so I have to search for it). That one of me sitting next to the deer... For some reason I thought I posed it here. Give me a minute to search.

Just realized I hadn't placed my vote yet, so thought I would bump this to remind others to do the same.

Damn! Just missed the deadline. I had photos of mountain goats and their brood with a Mount Ranier backdrop. One goat in particular had a scruffy beat up look and I was drawn to this ugly duckling.

I think everyone have great photos. I especially love that peek-a-boo marmot, the best marmot shot I've seen all summer.

I just wanted to reveal that the ballots have been tallied and this month's Photo of the Month. It was a very close race differing only by a single vote!

This month's winner is none other than Levi for the Marmot at Williamson Lake.

Second place goes to Sandy for an inquisitive mountain goat on Mt Airy in the southern Valhallas

Honorable mention go to billdcat's bear in Quesnel and my baby goat at Cathedral.

Congratulations to the winners! I'll be putting Levi's in the photo of the month spots on the site shortly. Stay tuned for next months category!
