This is probably not the right place to post this post about kind of a project on vagabondism, but I'll do it anyway. It is about shoes, vagabondism and photography, so I'll let a forum moderator decide either to keep it or not.

I always loved Cinderella story because of the fact that she run away, but also because of the tap – tap sound that my mom made every time she read it to me while mentioning Cinderella's shoes. When someone says freedom, I instantly reply shoes or walking. Everything can be solved by walking, right? Solvitur ambulando. To think about shoes, in my opinion, means to admire people who dare to expand their horizons. 'Oh, my darling shoes and my beloved feet', as Erica Jong would probably put it down. :) I don't know about you, but I strongly believe in my shoes and my feet because ‘my feet is my only carriage'. Don't get me wrong, I neither have feet or shoes fetish, only an unexplainable and mysterious urge to walk 'cause walking means to be alive.

A few evenings ago G. and me sat and talked about things from our childhood. I mentioned my great punk – shoes made by Borovo (Croatia). They don't produce them anymore. G., on his side, could tell how he was convinced that he'd suffered terrible emotional trauma at a young age when his mother one day came home with a new pair of ‘lovely shoes with great comfort' (mother's words), namely kickers - shoes. A very first look at these ‘brownish and truly ugly Kickers' (Goran's words), created an explosion in his head because he was thinking about tomorrow's day and bullying at school. Looking at him today, I can see that his trauma still feels very strongly many years later :). Anyway, inspired by our chit – chatt about shoes, we decided to start following project - ::addYOURshoes:: - project. The only thing you need to do is to go to our jumpcut – website:
http://www.jumpcut.com/view/?id=0EB0...9D000423CF037A ,
find the button "edit" in the frame and add a picture of your shoe[s]. If you do so, you will actually make one great contribution to an experiment on/ in vagabondism :). Please, feel free to spread the word to your friends and family.

ps:

my fav. gipsy shoes (RIP)

I know of a tree located somewhere (undisclosed for now) in the Lower Mainland that is COVERED in shoes. Hundreds of them.

"The Shoe Tree"

Does anyone know where this tree is?

Hint: It is next to a river.

Farmer 12-11-2007 03:36 PM

coqu river, right?

Dax 12-11-2007 04:02 PM

Yep, on the Coquitlam side of the river, not the Burke/PoCo side. If you start walking down the riverbank back towards the city at the Hatchery you can't miss it. It sure was interesting to find a hundred shoes on one of my nature hikes.

any pictures of the shoe tree anyone? I really loved the idea of the tree covered in shoes. if only shoes could talk, like in that british cartoon 'the shoe people' which I always watched as a kid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqPsDHpLj1c).

btw, not too far from where I live, there is a single pair of shoes hanging from a wire. I have actualy seen the same phenomenon (if I can call it phenomenon; it is unusal occurrence after all :D) several places here in Vancouver. does anybody know the meaning of that phenomenon?

Radmila 12-12-2007 07:26 AM

OMG, I totaly forgot about the "Shoe People" cartoon. Did anybody watch it here, or was it just popular in Europe?

I will have to take some pictures of shoes, and will make my contribution to your project. My favorites were Dr Martens shoes, I brought them with me when I immigrated 10 years ago, and even though I don't wear them anymore, they still sit in my closet, I can't get rid of them. The other one is Chuck Taylor All-Stars, I can't remember how many pairs I went through - white, blue, dark blue, black, red... They become popular again in the last year for some reason.

Some people will tell you it means someone was murdered there. Some will say it means you can buy drugs on that corner. There are many "reasons"

Here is a lot more theories:

There are thousands of shoe on a wire pictures on Flickr:

Could be gang / drug related or just kids. I'll bet it pisses off the utility workers.

thanx for links D. and S.; interesting reading; now I know more, and now I can start to wonder if I really live in the criminal area :); anyway, this area of Van. is a great&great place to live; Radmila, my converse shoes expressed always my rebelliousness; I used to write quotes/ paint on them, espec. on a brand new pair :); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcU2CIdcYsw

I know of a few "shoe trees" on Vancouver(and Gulf)Islands. Just get off the beaten path, yo! Hint: On your way to Cape Scott...or Quadra Island...

Cool idea, about the shoes. I have a pair of boots I will take a picture of and post a bit of a story (not sure where the camera is right now). Maybe a couple, hold on a bit.

p.s do work-boots count? Lots of miles on those JB Goodhues..
p.p.s. the silly John Fleuvog shoes I wore for Grad will always be burned in my memory. SO cool, SO impractical, expensive and useless.

This is a neat idea, I will check out the site and look for some pics.
