Default Monster Fish

When my friend and I got to the end of our nearly three week trip we were back in what is called the "Inside Passage". Unlike the rest of our trip, once at the Inside Passage we could see other boats, mostly cruise ships and the occasional ferry but it seemed strange to see civilization again after how remote the rest of the trip had been. Interestingly it was here, and on our second to last day where we had some of the best fishing. Below is a 10MB video my friend took of me catching a rather interesting fish. Sorry for the quality but I am a photo guy, not a video guy.

The trip report will come later when I have time to get through the pics but... I thought this footage was worth sharing now so enjoy.

Nice fish story with a happy ending for the fish! Growing up on the west coast of the island and living on the water it's always a great fight with a big ling cod. The largest i have ever caught was 40 lbs and that was a lot of fish and chips[]

Nice fish, but I've seen ones that would eat that one.

My guy was not over 40lbs but he's still the biggest I've ever seen.
Sure, if you scuba dive you can luck out on a really big fish but landing one by lure and rod and, at the end of a three week trip by canoe, well...

If there weren't any video evidence he'd forever have been my mythical 60lb great-granddaddy of them all

Funny Monster, I had a similar story I used to compare the pike I almost caught by the length of my arm when I was 12, as I got older, and my arm grew, the story stayed the same

Remember the ol saying?

Early to bed,
Early to rise,

Fish like HELL...
And Make Up Lies!!!

I was just looking at a few of the pics from my last trip and noticed that I didn't have the wide angle lens on when I caught the big fish so, this was the best my partner could do to get a shot of it and me, and this from the very back of an 18' 6" canoe... Still you can get an idea of how big the brute was right next to me, even if most of it is still in the water.

P.S. Pics from this trip will have to wait as I've still yet to finish a trip report for my Nootka Sound trip earlier this summer.
