I didn't read this whole thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating something that's already been said.

Personally, I'm a canon snob, but I wanted to say that canon cameras have the highest compatibilty with most lenses. Nikon takes excellent pictures and I certainly wouldn't turn one down, but the freedom that comes with owning a canon is in a class all it's own.

I was checking out some full sized samples from a K100, and ISO up to 800 looked very good. The 18-55 lens has had it's problems with vignetting at wide angles, but stopping down to F8 or so usually helps with this.
I'm not gonna waste my time with cheaper lenses. Ebay has a pretty good selection as well, so I'll be closely watching what's coming up there.

Spirit I'm well aware of all the "canon snobs" out there. The Pentax K10 is compatible with all K-mount lenses, which is a massive selection of lenses that would certainly rival Canon's. Fortunately there are enough of us out there that don't go with the majority and buy other brands.

Looking forward to seeing more samples from your K10 Andrew!

I don't see anything wrong with choosing a Pentax either. As far as I know, *all* K-mount lenses are compatible with *all* K-mount cameras, regardless of when they were made - no other manufacturer can make that claim.

My father is a professional wildflower photographer, and uses a collection of aging 1975 K1000's, the original K-mount camera, and he can use any K-mount lens from any era. (For you historians, he also has a couple of Spotmatics).

BTW, nobody has *ever* looked at one of his pictures and said "you know, your pictures would be so much better if you used brand XYZ equipment".. I really don't think that it makes much of a different for most people..

(Disclaimer - I went with Nikon - sorry Dad [:I])

Makes you wonder whether photography is a hobby or a religion
